Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers' Museum will proudly host New York History Day on April 27th, 2020 in Cooperstown, NY.  We are looking for capable, encouraging volunteers to judge student entries in this event and ask that you please consider joining our efforts.

About 1,500 students, parents, and teachers will arrive in Cooperstown for this event.  Students will be eager to present the results of their year-long history research projects in the formats of either a written paper, a theatrical presentation, a video documentary, or a website.  Judges will be needed to evaluate student entries, to ask pertinent questions, to provide supportive feedback, and to choose winners to advance to the National Competition.

On Sunday, April 26th from 4:00pm until 7:00pm, a kick-off barbeque will be held at The Farmers' Museum for incoming students, volunteers, and judges.  Judges are welcome to attend this dinner as a guest of the Museum.

On Monday, April 27th, Judges will arrive at The Farmers' Museum at 7:15am for a continental breakfast and a brief training.  They will then be partnered with other judges and will travel short distances to judge student entries in 20-minute intervals for two hours.  After a complimentary lunch, judges will complete a second round of judging, until about 4:00pm.  Judges should follow the National History Day Rule Book, provide thoughtful and encouraging feedback to students, and assist the Contest Coordinators in keeping the event on schedule.  An awards ceremony will then be held at Cooperstown Central School until about 6pm.

Please use this portal to register to judge.  Create an account with your contact information and your judging preferences.  You will be contacted within seven days with a confirmation email of your registration.  Volunteer judges' registration closes on April 1st, 2020.  You will receive a packet of information before the contest that includes your judging assignment.

This is a great opportunity to support hardworking students and to network with professionals from museums, historical societies, colleges, libraries, and state parks.  Thank You for your support of the students of New York State History Day.  We look forward to meeting you in Cooperstown!
