Parents and Educators
Are you interested in participating in New York City History Day?  Join us for a parent and teacher workshop on one of the following days:  

  • Thursday, September 23rd, 4PM - 6PM
  • Wednesday, October 13th, 4PM - 6PM
  • Wednesday, November 17th, 4PM - 6PM
  • Thursday, December 2nd, 4PM - 6PM
  • Tuesday, December 14th, 4PM - 6PM
  • Saturday, December 18th, 12PM - 2PM
The workshops are free of charge. The following topics will be addressed:
  • Incorporating History Day into the school curriculum
  • Reviewing the step-by-step process for creating a project
  • Looking at examples of projects in various categories
  • Learning about various research institutions in New York City
  • Reviewing the evaluation criteria for projects

Learn how to implement the History Day methodology in the classroom through a content based workshop. Educators will take a guided tour of one of the Museum's temporary exhibitions. Using primary and secondary sources from the exhibition, participants will learn the step-by-step process for creating a History Day project, including thesis writing, presentation of sources and labeling. Join us on one of the following days:

  • America's Mayor: John V. Lindsay and the Reinvention of New York, Tuesday, September 21st, 4PM - 6PM
  • Samurai in New York: the First Japanese Delegation, 1860, Sunday, October 24th, 12PM - 2PM

Join Tobi Voigt, New York State History Day Coordinator, and the New York State Humanities Council for a special History Day workshop on Sunday, November 14th. Featuring a lecture from one of the Council's Speaker in the Schools, participants will learn how to integrate the lecture's historical content in the classroom using the History Day model. Please call 917-492-3410 or email sdueno@mcny.org to RSVP for a workshop. Single visit option: Students will view an installation of projects from the 2009 New York City History Day program. Classes will have the opportunity to examine students' thesis statements and use of primary and secondary sources, learn about additional History Day categories, and find out how to participate in the 2011 New York City History Day competition. $125
